I just made my first trip to LJ Shanghai, and I will DEFINITELY be returning in the future. I ordered #029, the spicy beef soup. It's not overwhelmingly hot/spicy, and the flavor of the broth is amazing. Besides beef, it has noodles, cilantro, peanuts, and some other leafy green. The mango drink was also great, and I appreciated the tiny bits of mango in it. Both workers were polite and helpful. The look of the restaurant is simple - not fancy/elaborate, but I don't care about that. Finally, there is free parking on the street directly in front of the restaurant which makes it extremely convenient for me as an out-of-towner.
It doesn’t get better than LJ Shanghai. If you told me I was dying and I was allowed one last meal it would be the soup dumplings and pan fried noodles. The service is always excellent. The owner recently went cash only- it is so worth the extra minute to take cash out of an atm ahead of time. If you support small business, support woman owned small business, and support amazing quality food at great prices than you want to experience LJ Shanghai. It is the best.
First time here and will definitely come back! As soon as we entered. They let us know it was cash only! So no problem there!
the soup dumplings were blissful and transported me to a simpler time. We got two orders between the 2 of us and easily could’ve horked down 2 more. The chili oil was sublime and easily the best chili oil I’ve ever encountered. The fried Shanghai flat noodle was possibly the best noodle dish I’ve ever had. The bok choy and meat were the perfect compliments to the saucy noodles. The sweet and sour ribs were sweet and a bit gummy, also not hot. Overall very good experience and prices were phenomenal (cash only) will be back again and again. That’s a promise.
These soup dumplings are the best I’ve had— so much flavor and paired with the chili oil, 10/10. All of the food tasted fresh, the service was fantastic, Will definitely be back! 🙂
LJ is such a special place in Cleveland. Family run and always so consistent with their quality of food. They work so hard for us all to enjoy their food and it really shows. Even when they are busy and have all the tables full they still work like a well-oiled machine and get food and drink on every table. I have so much respect for what they do and they deserve so much praise for operating this restaurant. Its easily in my top 5 favorites if cleveland! Go when you can and remember to bring cash!
The restaurant was extremely busy and there were people waiting in front of me but within two minutes of me entering we were seated at a table. Their soup dumplings are superb!
Came on a Saturday evening during rush hour. Had to wait for a table but that gave me time to read over the menu. Definitely recommend going with parties of 4 or less. I witness larger parties having to wait longer.
I can’t say enough about how incredible this place is.
SO INCREDIBLE. the chaushou & its sauce is incredible, so it the smoked fish & ITS sauce. the meatball was so great & the soup dumplings are a must.
